Min. Glenda Akinbinu, Associate Minister

Glenda Akinbinu was born in Coy Alabama, to Annie Nell McPherson and Roosevelt Baldwin Sr.  As a child, she grew up with her Great Aunt, and attended New Mount Zion Baptist Church. At the age of 5, she was relocated to Eufaula Alabama where she later became a member of Evangelistic COGIC and was baptized by Rev. Ivory Brown at the age of 8. As a young girl, she always desired to be in the house of the Lord and among the people of God in worship. Growing up in Eufaula she regularly attended Sunday School and Church services throughout the week. While attending Evangelistic COGIC she received piano lessons from the late Rev. Ivory Brown and served as a member of the youth choir.

At age 13 Glenda was reunited with her Great Aunt in Coy and renewed her membership with New Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J Evans. She served on the youth choir and played piano for the City Mass Choir of Coy Alabama under the direction of Trustee Mable Thomas.

Glenda attended and graduated from Camden High School in Camden, Alabama as a salutatorian and later attended Knoxville College in Knoxville Tennessee where she received her Associate's Degree in Biology. She then transferred to Howard University, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She has practiced nursing for 37 years and has approached her career as a ministry to the sick. While attending Howard, she started and worked with youth choirs throughout the District of Columbia and Maryland. She served as the musician for the United Church of God in Christ under Pastor Harvey Lewis Sr.

In 1996, she and her children joined the Community Bible Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Clevester Wimbish. She is currently a member of the Women’s Ministry and serves as an assistant teacher in the Christian Education and the New Life class. After discerning a call to the proclamation of the gospel, Glenda recognized the importance of studying to show herself approved unto God. Towards that end, she attended Washington Baptist Theological Seminary, where she was conferred her Master of Divinity.

Glenda has three adult children: Dr. Oluyinka Amon (Son-in-love, Kevin), Rev. Dr. Bankole Akinbinu Jr. (Daughter-in-love, Angel), and Ayinde Akinbinu. She has three beautiful grandchildren: Alivia, Elijah, and Jeremiah.
